Knowledge Does Not Apply Itself

Knowledge Does Not Apply Itself

If you are looking to earn more money and have more time for yourself  you may want to consider this quote from Jim Rohn “In order to have more, you need to become more.” We all have the natural ability to achieve more it’s in our DNA ! The challenge with most people is they go out in the world and “try” something new, fail, or get discouraged and just give up. They have very good intentions but fall short of the finish line, sound familiar? I read from, studied and modeled some of the most successful people I could find. Spent endless hours and thousands of dollars trying to figure out what was the key to success…Each had their own unique style, and systems. I’ve been told you learn what other people are doing and “model them”. Seems like a good idea right ? So out into the world I went…sometimes I had success, most times I would end up just getting frustrated… So how do successful people achieve success so effortlessly? I read what they read. I did the activities they did. I got the same amount of sleep they did. I eat the same foods they eat. Then I realized there is one “key” to all success ,which is our ability to focus on a specific thought and hold it there (we average 60,000-80,000 thoughts per day) don’t entertain any other thoughts, In today’s world of “instant gratification” we tend to hold onto only the thoughts that make us feel good at that second… I guess it’s not really our fault we’re programmed that way. Last...
Let’s Imagine

Let’s Imagine

Remember when we were kids and life was simpler… We’d play for hours. Who liked Baseball. Who liked Hockey. Who liked Basketball. Who liked Football. Who liked soccer. Let’s imagine for a moment what life was like back then. You would get up in the morning and go outside and play until dark (or at least until your mother told you it was time to come in) I can never forget the time the Boston Bruins won the Stanley cup in 1970. The Bruins were making their first appearance in the final since 1958. The Bruins went on to win the series 4-0, their first Stanley cup victory in 29 years…Bobby Orr scored the cup-winning goal on Glenn Hall, with an assist from Derek Sanderson, at forty seconds of overtime, I’ll never forget that day I saw Bobby Orr flying through the air,(he had been tripped by Blues defenseman Noel Picard just as he shot the puck) his arms raised in victory!! I can remember how happy my Dad was when the Bruins won that day, I think we were both dancing around the house…Like little kids…(at that time I still was). From that moment on I always Imagined I would also score a “game winning goal” every time we played hockey. It didn’t matter if it was raining. It didn’t matter if it was snowing. It didn’t matter if it was below zero. It didn’t matter if the ice was a little rough. All I could imagine was scoring that goal…No excuses… How about you ? Did you ever use your imagination like that when you were a...
The Journey to…Silence

The Journey to…Silence

Over this past weekend I had a chance to go into the silence, I planned for two days… Have you ever had a day without: Cell phones Computers Facebook T.V. Talking to people Nothing that can occupy your mind…Nothing at all…. for 2 days…Really… Seems strange when you think about it in fact a bit scary, just think for two days you’ll have no contact with another person. The first thing that pops into your mind is how am I going to take two days away from my work or my family? That was my initial thought, then I started to think about it a bit more , what is so important that I’m unable to unplug for a few days ? Is the world going to stop ? Not a chance…However there is always something that needs attention !! I decided that any journey begins with a starting point and it doesn’t matter if you begin with two days or just a few hours you just need to get started you’ll figure out how to extend the time. Over the years I’ve had some experience with breaks of time where I’ve had little or no contact with people, the only issue was I never fully unplugged from electronic devices. After that weekend I’ve grown to enjoy time alone once a month or so. Although I had short breaks of silence I never was able to totally unplug myself, I never knew how important that was until I spent that weekend alone. When you “unplug” it feels strange at first…It has been said that great minds seek solitude frequently, it...
The Highest Form of Architecture

The Highest Form of Architecture

In the fall of October 2008 , I learned what words can mean and how they can make you feel. I was working 50 miles from home that sunny fall day, the trees had amazing color , the wind had that cool breeze , there was a faint smell of burning wood in the air. Thinking to myself that day how amazing life is and how grateful I am to be in this place at this time in my life…   Later that morning my phone rang it was my wife…She had gone over my folks house to “check in.” My mother was helping out at the school that day so dad was home alone…She told me you better come home something is wrong with your father. Now that’s words you never want to hear… My Dad was having a stroke…I rushed toward home driving like a madman…On my way home my wife called me to tell me my Dad was now at the hospital. When I arrived at the hospital he was is in the emergency room the doctors were trying to figure out what to do to save his life…It was determined my Dad needed to go to Mass General Hospital in Boston Mass via Medflight. I can remember as they loaded Dad into the Medflight I asked the doctor what were his chances ??? He turned and looked me dead in the eye and said…Son your Dad has a 50/50 percent chance of survival !!!!  More words I didn’t want to hear…Was my Dad going to be called up to the next Journey today ?? I...
