“Names Matter”

How important is it for someone to remember your name ? You begin the conversation and you introduce yourself clearly, yet only a short while later that person does not remember your name ! Can you relate to this ?? When someone says your name it leaves you with a sense of importance. Sometimes it’s a challenge remembering a persons name especially if it is hard to pronounce. For most of us we’re so busy thinking about what we want to say next that we don’t quite get their full name which can place you in a disadvantage. However if you remember that name and properly pronounce it, you have just sent a very effective compliment to the person! Do you think you’ll have a better chance gaining their respect ? Franklin D Roosevelt was a master at recalling names, he could remember a persons name clearly with one time hearing their name. How is that possible ? Did he have some sort of secret ? Perhaps, When asked he said, “I pictured the persons name as if it was written on their forehead.” Mr Roosevelt knew the best way to gain the goodwill of others was to remember their name. In remembering names the first thing we must do is listen to what is being said, instead of thinking what you are going to say next, your internal dialogue occupies the same auditory nerve in your ear as external sound.
